Ashbrookes Group are pleased to announce that a successful completion of the exchange on the John Street site, located in Sunderland.
Ideally situated in the heart of the city, the building initially served as the Department of Works and Pensions Job Centre, which has now relocated. Their plan is to undertake the work required to develop the commercial building into 55 quality, purpose-built student accommodation units plus one commercial office on the ground floor.
Student accommodation in Sunderland is in short supply, with multiple student developments on John Street already fully occupied and oversubscribed. Ashbrookes look forward to transforming this unused building into a much-needed and valuable asset, which will serve as a welcome addition to the area and cater to the pressing needs of the local student population.
Additionally, the development will feature a new office space for Ashbrookes Estate Agency. To ensure the smooth progression of the project, Ashbrookes initiated a pre-application process by submitting a planning application to the Sunderland Planning Authority on 9th June 2023. This step allows the company to seek valuable advice and feedback on their proposed scheme before submitting the complete application. Their team eagerly anticipate the response from the planners, which is expected in early July.
This will be the developer’s first venture in Sunderland and they are delighted to further expand their presence and contribute to the growing success of the business in the North East region.
